WEDNESDAY

9:30 – 11:00 am : Integrating CNC Technology into the Small Furniture Shop

Presenter: Owain Harris

Are you dedicated to fine craftsmanship but interested in exploring new technologies? Are you considering CNC for your furniture practice but unsure where to start? In this one hour presentation, furniture maker Owain Harris will discuss his journey from techno-phobe to reluctant CNC owner and eventual enthusiast. Owain will show participants how he has integrated the CNC into his work-flow, and explore what its means to be a craftsperson in the twenty-first century.

11:00 am – 12:30 pm : Coloring Wood

Presenter: Roland Johnson

Too many woodworkers are terrified of adding color to their work, so they fall back on the hackneyed phrase, “I would never ruin the natural beauty of wood by changing its color.” Roland Johnson will help you get over your fear and learn to use stain to bring out the best in a piece. There are many factors that affect the successful use of color and this class will make a grand tour of them, from grain direction to glazing.
